What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in 2021?
It’s good to take a break. Your startup won’t fail in the space of 24h
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I thought I had lots. I did before Mortgage Propeller and Covid came along. Playing with the kids, spending time with my wife … When your spare time is greatly reduced you start to use the remaining time for the important stuff. In a previous life it was video games, socialising, TV, movies, sport, stock market trading, travelling…
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs right now?
Depends on what stage you are at. A guy from my past reached out yesterday. He has just begun his startup journey. They are very early and he sent me a 3 page email with all the questions you send when you are buzzing and have 100 questions. I answered them all but before replying I cut and pasted the part where he said ‘the MVP is going in front of customers this week’ and put it right at the top of the mail. I told him “don’t worry about anything else below. Get it in front of 50 customers first and then we’ll take it from there”. For an early stage entrepreneur, I think that would be good advice.
Wait, here is advice I’d give to entrepreneurs in general – don’t be the hardest working entrepreneur in the graveyard.
